Welcome to my little retreat. I am Lukas and on this site I upload works surrounding peace and conflict data. The aim is to illustrate peace and conflict data in general and more specifically the spatiality of things. However, I also intend to map out other data, for example from public health, protests, droughts etc. in relation to phenomena of interest in the peace and conflict field.
Disclaimer: I am not a trained geographer or cartographer, but dove into the open-source program QGIS out of curiosity and found a liking in it. I hold a Master Degree in Social Science with specialization in Peace and Conflict Studies, obtained at the University of Uppsala’s Department of Peace and Conflict Research. I am currently employed at the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) of said department.
I always found visualizing numbers and concepts revealationary. Graphs, illustrations, maps etc. such as those by Gap Minder (https://www.gapminder.org/), or EarthTime (https://earthtime.org/) are thought-provoking and motivate further analyses.
That being said, the content I create here is not intended to be scientific. This blog is about having fun with data.
